From a young boy overcoming the loss of my mother, to living on my own at 16, to mopping the floor of a McDonald's, to working in a library, to starting a business with my wife and finally becoming a member of Congress, I have lived the American dream. I ran for office so I could try to bring that American dream that I have been privileged to be a part of, to you, to your family, and to your grandchildren.
Throughout my life there have been two foundations that I have relied on every day - faith and family. I know that my family defines me as a person. From my parents, teaching me the values that were important to them, I learned to trust in God and to be grateful that I lived in the greatest country on earth - a beacon of freedom for all mankind. My Dad taught me what it meant to love your country so much that you were willing to fight and, if necessary, die to protect it and keep it free.
My wife and children have taught me the importance of a strong family unit, and have sustained me as I live the American dream. I believe in the values of our founding fathers. They risked everything they possessed, including their lives, to provide us with a country where we could be free, free to worship as we chose, free to express ourselves and free to live our lives.
I am proud to have received the endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee. I am strongly pro-life and will fight every step of the way for the sanctity of each and every human life - born or unborn. I will stand for life from the moment of conception until the end of natural life. The NRLC recognizes that I am a strong advocate for life and will stand with them to restore legal protection for innocent life.
I believe that marriage is the union of one man and one woman. This principle has been the bedrock of our Judeo-Christian family values, and stable families remain the key to a healthy society. When President Obama refused to defend the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) I joined in demanding that he uphold DOMA, a federal law which recognizes that marriage is between a man and woman. I co-sponsored H. Con. Res. 25, expressing disagreement with President Obama on this issue. I have consistently voted in favor of pro-life legislation.
