Remembering D-Day

Sixty-six years ago Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy in a brave and valiant effort that turned the tide in the European Theater of World War II. Over 150,000 soldiers landed on, and scaled the cliffs of, Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword beaches while facing down German machine gun and artillery fire. The bravery these men exuded began the march across Europe to defeat Adolf Hitler. We can never repay these brave men who helped save the world from a Nazi regime. Today we honor them for their heroism and sacrifice.

My father, Max Fleischmann, served in WWII as well. I have seen first hand the impact the war made on our brave soldiers, and how it shaped the way they lived their lives: honor, bravery, and sacrifice. We can never repay the greatest generation, but we can thank them for all they did for the United States, and the world. As President Reagan said in his commemoration of the veterans of Normandy, "We will always remember. We will always be proud. We will always be prepared, so we may always be free."

Thank you.
