On Ronald Reagan’s 99th birthday, I hope that each of you will take a few moments to pause and remember the legacy he left to the land he loved so much. His leadership inspired a generation of Americans to become involved in public service. His wit and wisdom lifted our spirits and gave each of us optimism that, indeed, America’s best days were ahead of us.
He became President during another difficult time in American history. Our spirits were low, our economy was in free fall, and our great nation had lost the respect of much of the world. He restored our faith in America, in its goodness and in its ability to solve its problems without the involvement of the federal government. Perhaps that is his greatest legacy.
