Wave The Flag Proudly

Today is Flag Day.  Our American flag is an enduring symbol of our patriotism and waves proudly all across our country as an expression of the commitment we have for our American way of life and for our freedom.

As I consider all that our flag means to me, I’m reminded of a story Ronald Reagan once shared about our flag.  President Reagan said that the verse was written as if the flag were speaking to us now and for generations to come.  The verse reads:  "I am whatever you make me, nothing more. I am your belief in yourself, your dream of what a people may become. I am the day's work of the weakest man and the largest dream of the most daring. I am the clutch of an idea and the reasoned purpose of resolution. I am no more than you believe me to be, and I am all that you believe I can be. I am whatever you make me, nothing more."

As I look at our flag, I see the stars and stripes of a united people.  I see men and women working together to build a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.  I see opportunity and prosperity.  I see family and friends and faith.  And I see Freedom.

Let’s make the time today not only to celebrate this national treasure, but to consider its long history and exactly what it means to our country.

I’d love to know what the American flag means to you.  Leave me a comment below.
