Forty-one years ago today, American Astronaut Neil Armstrong walked on the moon. Most of us recognize immediately the historic words he said that exciting day: "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
Armstrong’s history making mission in Apollo 11, with crewmates Michael Collins and Edwin E. Aldrin Jr., represented a very different period in our country’s history. Americans were united in their determination to be the first nation to reach the moon. We knew that we would overcome any obstacle to fulfill the dreams of a generation. And we did.
Now we are faced with many critical problems in our country – an ever increasing deficit, out of control spending, a Congress and Federal Government that no longer listen to the people they work for. In fact, some have suggested that America’s best days are behind us.
I don’t believe that for a minute. I believe strongly in the genius of the American people. We are still the most innovative and creative people in the world. We can and will work together to reduce the deficit, stop the out of control spending, balance the budget, and send public servants to Washington who will listen to what we the people think. I am confident that our best days are yet to come!
In November the voices of the American people will be heard, at the most important place of all, the voting booth. Our message will be delivered loud and clear that that we are tired of politics as usual and have plans of our own to put this country back on the right track. We know how to solve the major problems facing our nation and, with your help, I’ll make certain that your voice is heard in Congress!
